The Priory

These short stories are set in and around the Priory, the centre of a world recovering from a war between the gods that decimated humanity and left only one surviving deity. The Prior guides humanity's recovery to ensure it will never happen again. At least, that's the theory.
​
It's Chandra's first day working as a qualified historian in the Priory. He awakes to a portent of the emergence of a new god. It puts him in the centre of the rush to identify the new deity's speciality before it appears. Only then will the Prior decide whether to let it live. ​Warning: contains bad jokes.

Although not set in the same extended universe, this tale was inspired by the story The Muffler's Retrospective in Substrate Constraints. It's a corollary told from a different perspective, and with a different outcome. You can blame Elon Musk too.​​
